Let's jump in and discover together!

What are Player Prop Bets?

Player prop bets, often called “props,” focus on individual players' actions rather than the overall game result. They're popular in various sports, especially in basketball. In the NBA, these bets zoom in on specific player achievements such as points, assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, etc.

The Lineup for Today:

With a full slate of NBA action tonight, there are plenty of great lines to explore. In our preview of tonight’s games, we start with the Bucks at the Pacers, then head to Cleveland where the Cavs are hosting the Wizards, followed by the Raptors heading to Memphis, and finish things off with the Lakers and the Heat. In our lineup for the day, we are taking a superstar to stay below a huge number, a young center to have a tough day rebounding, a guard to continue his struggles on the glass, and finish things off with a same game parlay for two stars. Though we are highlighting all of these plays on their own, they do line up incredibly well if you are interested in taking them as a parlay. Running all of our plays through the Parlay Optimizer, we can see that over the past 10 games, this parlay has hit 42% of the time, giving it implied odds of +140. There is a great edge for the play given that you can get this parlay on DraftKings for odds of +990.

Giannis Antetokounmpo u43.5 Points + Assists (-120) (DK) | NBA Player Props

It is always hard to take an under on a player as dominant as Giannis, but here, the numbers are firmly poised against him. The Bucks superstar has still put up sensational numbers this year, but the line has set for today is simply too high even for him. Over his last ten games, Giannis has been under this line in all but one game, currently on a nine-game hit streak.

This is not just a trend over his recent games however, Giannis has struggled against this number for nearly the entire season. Looking at the entire year, he has been under this line in all but five games, making the under even more dominant. It is worth noting that Giannis has had some of his best games of the season coming up against Indiana, but given the bigger picture, this is a number that is far too high for the odds it is given. Taking the under is the smart bet here and should easily be the outcome, based on how he has performed recently and for the entire year.

Jarrett Allen u12.5 Rebounds o26.5 Points (-120) (DK) | NBA Player Props

Allen is a talented rebounder who has seen his role only grow larger with an injury to Evan Mobley, but finds himself with a line that is unfavorable given his performances this year. Over his last ten games, the center has been more active on the boards than earlier in the year, but has still somewhat struggled against this line. In this stretch, Allen has been under this line in 7 out of 10 games, giving the under a strong 70% hit rate.

In theory, his matchup against the defensively weak Wizards should help support his numbers, but over the course of the season, Allen has actually struggled much more against these types of matchups. When facing off against bottom-quartile defensive teams such as Washington, the Cavs center has been under this line in all but one game.

Similarly, it should make sense that Allen’s rebounding numbers would go considerably higher in the absence of such a talented player as Mobley, but looking at his performances without Mobley, the story is quite different. In his games this season since the injury to Mobley, Allen has still only managed to over this line three times, giving the under a dominant 75% hit rate. Though much should be going for Allen, the numbers seem to indicate otherwise and suggest that the under should be the way to go on this line.

Ja Morant u6.5 Rebounds (-165) (DK) | NBA Player Props

Though the sample size is small as Morant is only just returning back from his suspension, the numbers are clear on this one. In his 7 games this season, Morant has yet to go over this line a single time and for the most part has been well under it. Whether it is his increased role as a scorer, or simply just fewer opportunities on the board, the high-flying Grizzlies guard has not been putting up great numbers on the glass and this is a trend that is likely to continue at least through this matchup.

Squared off against Toronto, Morant should have a relatively tough time pushing towards this number as they are currently ranked as the 8th-best rebounding team in the NBA. Though their team looks quite different after their recent trade, they should only be getting better on the glass with some of the smart pickups they were able to get from the Knicks. Looking back further to last season, Morant did not hit this line very often, staying under in 64% of all his games played across the last two years, which should prove that this early season trend is indicative of something larger. With the tough matchup and his early season struggles rebounding, expect Morant to be under and this bet to continue its early season run.

Miami Heat @ Los Angeles Lakers (+102) (DK) | Same Game Parlay

We are going to be featuring one parlay which we believe has great upside potential for this game. This week we are looking at a two-leg parlay, featuring Tyler Herro scoring at least 20 points and Anthony Davis recording at least 2 blocks. Despite some struggles with injury himself, Herro is scoring the ball at an exceptional clip this season, particularly in the recent absence of Jimmy Butler. Since his recent return from injury, the Kentucky product has hit this number in all but one game. Similarly, in games this season with Butler, Herro has hit this line in all but one game, giving him great season long success regardless of the matchup. On the other side of the ball, Anthony Davis is back to his best this year, particularly on the defensive end of the floor. The center is coming off one of his best games of the year against the Pelicans where he managed 5 blocks, but his season long averages have been more than enough. This season, Davis has put up 2.6 blocks per game and coming against a Miami team that loves taking the ball inside, he should have plenty of opportunities to keep this going. Both players here have a lot of momentum and have hit these lines with incredible frequency this season. They both serve as essential parts of how their respective teams like to play, making this a great bet for tonight.

In review, we are taking:

  • Tyler Herro 20+ Points
  • Anthony Davis 2+ Blocks

This is currently being offered for +102 on DraftKings, but running it through our parlay optimizer, we see it has hit in 6 of the last 9 games, giving it implied odds of -200.

Looking over a longer stretch, this parlay has been just as great throughout the entire year. Over the last 20 games, this has hit in 63% of games, giving the bet implied odds of -170 during that stretch.

Finally, this has been a great bet over the course of the entire season. Looking at their performances all year, this bet has hit in 58% of games, giving it implied odds of -140.

Why engage in NBA player prop betting? It injects an extra thrill into basketball viewing. Unlike standard bets on teams, player props dive into the actual performances on the field. They offer more predictability and are less swayed by the crowd's opinion. With a deep understanding of a player's capabilities, you can use your insights effectively. Plus, it heightens the excitement of each game, as every action could tip the scales of your wager. Remember, responsible betting is key, but enjoy the additional excitement that player props bring to each NBA game.

These bets are not only thrilling but can also be quite rewarding for those who find the market's sweet spots. As a significant force in today's sports betting scene, a firm grasp of NBA player props is a must-have for any serious bettor or basketball fan. Strategies for Selecting Winning NBA Player Prop Bets

Embarking on the journey of NBA player prop betting requires a blend of skill, insight, and strategy. Here are key tactics to help you navigate this exciting landscape and make informed bets:

  • Player Performance Analysis: Delve into recent performances of players. Consider factors like injuries, recovery status, and consistency. A player on a hot streak or facing a weaker defense could be a lucrative bet.
  • Matchup Assessments: Evaluate the matchups carefully. A star shooting guard facing the league's top perimeter defense might not hit their average threes made. Conversely, a top center against a team with a weak inside defense might exceed expectations.
  • Historical Trends: Look at historical data. Some players may have a history of performing exceptionally well or poorly against certain teams or in particular situations.
  • Coaching Strategies: Stay updated on team strategies. Coaching decisions can influence a player's opportunity to perform. For example, a shift toward a smaller lineup would mean more opportunities for skilled players to score.
  • In-Game Scenarios: Consider the context of the game. A team that's trailing may shoot more threes to try and get back ahead.
  • Bankroll Management: Keep your bankroll in check. Don't place all your funds on one prop; diversify your bets to manage risk.
  • Line Shopping: Compare odds across different sportsbooks. Even small differences can be significant over time, so shop for the best lines for your chosen props.
  • Timing Your Bets: Monitor line movements. Placing your bet at the right time, when the lines are most favorable, can be as crucial as the bet itself.
  • Keeping an Eye on the News: Injuries, trades, and team news can all affect props. Keep an eye on updates right up to game time to catch any critical changes.

By incorporating these strategies into your betting routine, you can boost your chances of finding valuable bets and making your NBA viewing experience even more thrilling.

Remember, the key to successful prop betting is research and disciplined wagering. Use the insights gained from these strategies to place smart, informed bets. With practice and patience, you could enhance your NBA player prop betting game.
